BC Emission Reduction Plans
British Columbia is committed to reducing climate change emissions and supporting clean economic growth. These are terrific goals, but the devil in in the details!
The BC Government recently released a set of Climate Solutions and Clean Growth “Intentions Papers”, including one concerning Clean Transportation. It recommends policies and programs that support zero emission vehicles, cleaner fuels, public transit, car-pools and bicycling, but ignores PAYD and other pricing reforms.
Here is a letter about from analyst Todd Litman to the Honorable George Heyman, BC Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy: Clean Transportation Intentions Paper Comments.
The Clean Transportation Website invites public discussion, but only offers forums concerning Zero-Emission Vehicles, Cleaner Fuels and Clean Energy Commercial Vehicles; there is no forum for discussing Cleaner Transportation Systems which includes improvements to non-auto modes, efficient pricing such as PAYD, and Smart Growth development policies that reduce total motor vehicle travel.
